Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, Jur. Dr., is professor of law at Åbo Akademi University (Finland). Before that she has worked as Director of Åland Islands Peace Institute (Finland) and associate professor at Uppsala University (Sweden). Sia has worked in academia as well as with non-governmental organisations and research institutions in Europe, East Africa and the USA.
Sia’s work focuses on diversity, minorities, peaceful resolution of conflicts, territorial autonomy, and legal restraints on securitization and the use of force. Among her books: Justifications of Minority Protection in International Law (Kluwer, 1997) & Demilitarization and International Law in Context – The Åland Islands, co-authored with S. Heinikoski & P. Kleemola-Juntunen (Routledge, 2018).
