Pierre Walckiers
Pierre Walckiers completed a Master’s degree in Law at the Free University of Brussels and a Master’s degree in Philosophy at UCLouvain in June 2021. Following a complementary Master’s program in European Interdisciplinary Studies at the College of Europe (Natolin) and a bluebook traineeship at the European Commission, he embarked on a doctoral thesis in law at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Legal Studies of UCLouvain as an F.S.R.-FNRS research fellow, under the supervision of Christine Frison and Olivier De Schutter.
His research focuses on the functions and limits of scientific argumentation in legal discourses, particularly in discussions concerning the status of dematerialized seeds in the International Treaty on Plant Resource for Food and Agriculture. In this case study, his project aims to shed light on how scientific arguments are utilized to guide, reinforce, or exert pressure within legal discussions.
