Noora Arajärvi

Dr. Noora Arajärvi (PhD, EUI; LLM, Helsinki; LLB, Sheffield)) is Legal Officer at the European University Institute.  She has worked as a law lecturer, a postdoctoral researcher, and in professional roles at the UN Rule of Law Unit in New York and at the Hertie School in Berlin. In her research she covers diverse areas, such as the sources of international law, rule of law in international organizations, data protection in research ethics, and the role of law in higher education. Recently, she co-edited The Theory, Practice, and Interpretation of Customary International Law (CUP 2022). She is a member of the EUI Exploratory Working Group on AI Generative Models, and a research group member of Center for AI and Digital Policy Clinic Class 2024/2. She also serves as deputy chair of the Co-ordinating Committee of the ESIL Interest Group on International Legal Theory and Philosophy.
